Emma Snowsill Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT TRIATHLONS?
I did my first triathlon in Noosa when I was 16, as part of a team. I only did the swim leg of the race, but became so hooked from the thrill of it all, that I decided I wanted do triathlons for the rest of my life!
I love a challenge, and triathlons are tricky because you have to become the master of 3 different sports – running, cycling and swimming – all combined into one. It’s a huge balancing act, trying to get all three going well and in unison, and each training session or race is a great motivational tool.
TELL US ABOUT SOME OF THE RACES YOU’VE BEEN IN.
I won my first National Age Title in 2000, and then did a World Championship later that year. I then started racing in the Sydney Youth Olympic Festivals, which is something I will never forget because a year later, I started racing in the open circuit through Europe and Asia.
I won my first senior International race in 2003, at the Japan ITU World Cup. Nowadays, I mainly compete in the Olympic Distance World Cup series, which is also governed by the ITU, and participate in the Olympic and Commonwealth games. I had a blast at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and I’m really looking forward to my journey to London 2012!
DESCRIBE YOUR TYPICAL DAY.
I get up at 5.30am, go swim training; Breakfast; nap; ride; Lunch; run-train; Dinner; then sleep.
I’m always careful to eat well and snack healthily. I love my healthy treats and love to snack on The Natural Confectionery Co.’s yummy raspberry dinosaurs after training and in my downtime!
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
I have a black-belt in shopping so I need to get lots of practice. I love looking at clothes, food, music, magazines and books. I also have a little dog named Jett, so I love taking him to the park and playing games with him.
CAN I COME SEE YOU RACE?
Of course! Triathlon is very much a summer sport, and this year, our friends at The Natural Confectionery Co. will be hosting ‘Emma Snowsill Fun Zones’. Come along to learn more about my life and love of sport, and enter in the chance to win some great prizes!
